Biography
Zacarías Duarte Castellón, MD, PhD, is a Nicaraguan physician, specialist in forensic medicine and pathology, and university professor with more than four decades of experience in medical research, forensic sciences, and higher education. He earned a PhD in Sciences, summa cum laude, from Université Paris XI, France, and completed postgraduate training in toxicological and experimental pathology, parasitology, pathology, and forensic medicine. He was a founder and senior leader of Nicaragua’s Institute of Legal Medicine, where he contributed to the development of integrated medicolegal services, technical standards, forensic protocols, violence-surveillance systems, and specialized services for women, children, and adolescents. His scientific and technical production includes approximately 100 works spanning forensic medicine, toxicology, pathology, parasitology, chemical safety, and public health. He has also served as a national and international consultant and has extensive experience teaching forensic medicine, toxicology, pathology, and research methodology.
