Biography
Srijon Paul is an early-career marine scientist, academician and researcher with a background in marine science, environmental sustainability, ocean governance and plastic pollution. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Marine Science from the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and is currently pursuing an MPhil in Marine Science, focusing on marine ecosystem vulnerability to plastic pollution in the Northern Bay of Bengal. He is currently serving as a Lecturer (Basic Science) in the Department of General Education at Southern University Bangladesh. His professional and research experience includes community-based plastic pollution reduction, sustainable plastic waste management, multistakeholder engagement, marine protected area management, marine spatial planning and coastal environmental research. His research experience has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, international and national conference presentations, and ongoing studies addressing plastic pollution, blue growth, fisheries, coastal megaprojects and marine environmental sustainability. He also developed interdisciplinary technical and research skills in statistical and data analysis, GIS and spatial mapping, survey-based research, scientific presentation, and graphic design. He has participated in professional training and workshops on microplastic pollution, circularity in the built environment, blue economy, climate change, sustainable development, research methodology and operational oceanography. Through his academic, research and community-engagement activities, he aims to contribute to the understanding and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems while promoting evidence-based environmental solutions.
