Biography

Somoday Hazra is a neuroscientist and research scientist at Humboldt University of Berlin, specializing in systems and behavioural neuroscience. He earned his PhD in Zoology (Neuroscience) from the University of Calcutta, India, and went on to postdoctoral positions in research laboratories in Israel and Germany. He has extensive experience in in vivo neuroscience, including stereotaxic surgery, viral injections, rodent behavioural experiments, electrophysiology, and miniscope calcium imaging in freely moving animals. His research interests centre on the neural circuits underlying memory and social behaviour in animal models, alongside learning and sensory processing. Beyond research, he has experience in university teaching, scientific writing, peer review, and mentoring. His broader interests include preclinical neuroscience, neurotechnology, scientific communication, and translating academic research skills into biomedical and industry applications.
