Biography
Ms Meeteileima Khumukcham is a mental health and socio-legal researcher whose work spans clinical research, correctional and justice-sector policy, and child rights administration. She holds a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology and is currently undergoing formal training in Drug de-addiction: Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation. Her research and advocacy concentrate on the mental health and socio-legal needs of marginalised populations, including prisoners, victims, women, children, persons with addiction, and other socially disadvantaged groups. She has worked at India's premier medical research institute (AIIMS, New Delhi) at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, and with national correctional and police research bodies, and completed brief forensic psychology lab internships, contributing to studies on substance use and correctional reform, peer-reviewed publications, and a national training manual for community health officers. As someone with lived and living experience of mental health challenges and neurodivergence, she brings a distinctive, insider-informed perspective to her research, with particular interest in participatory, lived-experience-driven approaches and in helping marginalised communities navigate systems of power.
