Editorial Role
Mahmudul Hasan serves as editor for Journal of Molecular Biochemistry and Physiology.
Biography
Mahmudul Hasan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fisheries at Jamalpur Science and Technology University (JSTU), Bangladesh and Director of its Research Cell. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fisheries Science from Bangladesh Agricultural University and his PhD from Hiroshima University, Japan, specializing in the evolutionary genetics of animals.
His research focuses on uncovering cryptic biodiversity, particularly among amphibians, fish and reptiles, using integrative approaches combining molecular genetics, DNA barcoding, morphology, reproductive biology and taxonomy. During his doctoral research, he investigated anuran diversity in Bangladesh and identified several candidate species, contributing to the subsequent description of new species. He has also completed whole-genome sequencing of Labeo rohita from the Jamuna River and DNA barcoding of approximately 150 freshwater species in Bangladesh. His current research investigates anuran and sea snake diversity using molecular and morphological approaches, with support from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the World Bank.
