Biography
Arelis Rabelo Castillo, a Maxillofacial Surgeon with over a decade of clinical experience in Cuba and Kenya. She hold a Second-degree Specialty in Maxillofacial Surgery, a Doctorate in Stomatology, and a Master's in Higher Education, alongside her roles as Assistant Professor and Adjunct Researcher. Castillo has spent 6 years working in Kenya, an African country, as a medical collaboration.
Her surgical practice encompasses the full spectrum of bucomaxillofacial pathology, including the treatment of orofacial cancer, excision of large tumors with primary reconstructions, and the management of complex trauma and fractures using titanium plates and miniplates. She has extensive experience in benign oral lesions, temporomandibular joint disorders, salivary gland diseases, odontogenic infections, preprosthetic and periapical surgery, pediatric cases, and post-traumatic secondary reconstructions.
Castillo’s professional journey began with her residency at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin General Hospital in Holguín, followed by a formative period at the Juan Paz Camejo General Hospital. Between 2018 and 2024, She served as a Specialist at the Kitui County Referral Hospital in Kenya, where she managed a high volume of complex maxillofacial cases in a resource-limited setting and contributed to local medical education and conference presentations.
Parallel to her clinical work, Arelis Rabelo Castillo has a strong commitment to teaching and academic development. She had served as Principal Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery, supervised residency theses, participated in examination boards, and delivered numerous postgraduate courses on topics ranging from oral cancer to COVID-19 protocols. Her research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications in Cuban and international journals, and she also served as a peer reviewer for scientific articles. She is an active member of the Cuban Societies of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Among her career highlights, she received the Gold Degree as the top graduate in Stomatology in her province and was recognized with the Comprehensive Vanguard Award for excellence in teaching, culture, and political-ideological work. Fluent in Spanish and English, she remain dedicated to advancing surgical care, medical education, and international collaboration.
